About the Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution
To keep winning the Dakar Rally after the organizers pushed factory prototypes out of the top production class, Mitsubishi had to sell a road car that homologated its desert racer — and the Pajero Evolution was it. Built in Japan from October 1997 to 1999 in a run of about 2,500, this short-wheelbase, flared-arch V55W paired a 3.5-liter 6G74 V6 with MIVEC variable valve timing, a dual-plenum intake, and a 7,000 rpm redline for 280 PS, wrapped in a fully independent long-travel suspension no ordinary Pajero received. It backed up the badge with a 1-2-3 Dakar sweep in 1998.
Its 1997-1999 production is entirely more than 25 years old, so every Pajero Evolution is US-legal to import today.
As a low-volume homologation special, clean Pajero Evolutions command a strong premium over ordinary Pajeros of the era.
