About the Acura Mdx
Search a JDM importer's inventory for an MDX and it is worth knowing upfront: the first-generation MDX (YD1, 2001-2006) was engineered in North America and sold here new as an Acura. It rides on Honda's global mid-size platform — shared with the Accord and Odyssey — stretched to carry a three-row, seven-seat body, and pairs a 3.5-liter J35 SOHC VTEC V6 (240 hp early, 265 hp from 2004) with full-time all-wheel drive. In Japan the same vehicle wore Honda badges, but it was never a Japan-only machine.
Because it was federalized and sold new here, a first-generation MDX needs no 25-year exemption — you buy and register a US-market example like any other used car. The import clock only matters for the Japanese-badged version, and those cars are not yet old enough to qualify.
